A footed majolica cake plate that lifts whatever sits on it — literally and otherwise. The Compagnia pattern is built from oak leaves drawn from Prosecco vineyards in northern Italy, glazed in a green that runs deep in the recesses and lightens across the raised leaf work.
Majolica is tin-glazed earthenware, and its tradition in Italy runs back centuries. Each piece here is made by hand, so the glaze pools differently and the leaf relief varies slightly from one to the next. That's not a flaw to tolerate — it's the reason to buy handmade instead of factory ceramic.
Two sizes, and they're better together. Use the larger for a cake or tart, the smaller for cheese or a stack of cookies, or both at different heights on a buffet. Between uses, they're sculptural enough to leave out on a counter holding fruit, or nothing at all.
